Sky Mirror is not that far away
Like many people, I’ve been looking forward to visit Salar de Uyuni, the “Sky Mirror” in Bolivia, South America. However, due to the faraway distance and the lack of travel fund, I still need to work harder for a few years in order to admire the breathtaking scenery.
While I was working hard for my Bolivia trip, I was surprised to find out that “Sky Mirror” is just less than 90km away from Kuala Lumpur!
In a fishing village named Sasaran at Kuala Selangor, fishermen discovered a secret island in the middle of the sea by accident many years ago. Two days before and after the 1st and 15th day of every lunar month, when the tide recedes until ankle level, this submerged island will appear for one to two hours under the sunshine, presenting the spectacular scenery of sea horizon.
The beach will become a big mirror, displaying the reflection of the sky, forming an endless “sky mirror”.
This trip was made possible without 20+ hours of long flight or expensive travel budget. The six of us booked a 7-seater car on JOYZRIDE website with easy credit card payment. And here started our relaxing and spontaneous trip to Sky Mirror.
We departed at 8am and reached Dock Sasaran in around 90 minutes. We assembled at 9.30 a.m., put on the life jacket, and the boat ride started at 10am sharp.
A KIND REMINDER :
Remember to board the boat on time, because there is only one boat trip to Sky Mirror. As it will be difficult to sail when the tide recedes until too low, so the boat will depart on time and will not wait for anyone.
Besides, the scenery of Sky Mirror will only last for 2 hours (around 10am to 12pm). So if you miss it, you won’t be able to see it then.
The ride only took us 30 minutes. With the accompaniment of sea breeze and seascape, we had come to the mirror-like beach.
I stood in the middle of the sea, strolling on the endless soft beach in bare feet (that’s right, you need to take off your shoes to avoid harming the sea creatures). The reflection of the sky was just beneath my feet, and the scenery of Sky Mirror that I longed for was just in front of me! This was beyond amazing!
The sky is connected with the sea, while the sea reflects the sky, providing a flat line where the Earth seems to meet the sky. I believe that the beautifulness here is compatible with Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni.
The sea was just like a full-length mirror, displaying my reflection on it.
How could we not take photos with such beautiful scenery? So we enjoyed ourselves playing and posing under the sun. Under the guidance of professional photographer, we recorded this beautiful moment that is worth remembering for a lifetime.
Let me show you some of the photos that we had taken, with some silly poses haha.
All of us were just like happy kids in front of Sky Mirror.
Jumping is a designated pose and of course, we couldn’t exempt it.
OMG! The Eiffel Tower of Paris is falling down!
You push, while we withstand it together.
Don’t worry, we will hold on to the Eiffel Tower.
A FRIENDLY REMINDER FOR GOOD SHOTS: -
1. Try to wear different colours or colourful clothes for each person in order to produce a nice effect.
2. If you wish to take beautiful photos with obvious reflection effect, you need to find a large and smooth water surface with no ripples. Therefore, try to smoothen the sand in front of you and make sure that the water is still before pressing the shutter.
3. Also, please pay attention to the water depth. The best timing to take reflection photos is when the water is at your ankle level.
4. Of course, you need sun protection while having fun, such as applying sunscreen and wearing a cap. Girls like me who are afraid of tanning, you can wear thin and breathable long-sleeved blouses, which is also a good choice.
5. Finally, it must be remembered that do not litter and do not harm the sea creatures under your feet. Please do not pollute this beautiful place of Sky Mirror.
We played and took pictures on the beach for more than an hour. When we got tired of posing and the water level had receded until a very low level, we rode on the boat and returned to the dock with satisfaction as our dream of visiting Sky Mirror was fulfilled.
Clean water is provided at the dock, which allows visitors to rinse their hands and feet, so that you can proceed to the next station cleanly.
We've had enough fun, so it's time to enjoy a meal and replenish our energy. Since this is a fishing village, seafood is a must-have food here.
At the photographer's recommendation, we came to this restaurant named "Jeti Seafood Restaurant" to have our lunch, which is about 5 minutes away from the dock. We ordered fresh fish porridge, shrimp paste, fried shark, salted fish tofu, and stir-fried green dragon chives.
All dishes here were super delicious. The fish porridge was very fresh and sweet, and it contained a lot of fish flesh inside. I couldn’t get enough of it and ended up eating three bowls. And my favourite dish – fried shark with curry powder, which is hardly seen in KL, the meat was filled with aroma, fresh and delicious. The point is, the food here is not only delicious but also super cheap.
This half-day trip was really worth it! Honestly speaking, I haven’t been so relaxed and enjoyed myself so much on the beach in a long while, not to mention that my wish of visiting Sky Mirror is fulfilled now.
I really love this place. It’s very beautiful, comfortable and clean.
If you feel stressed out, you may visit this place with your family and friends to take photos and eat, drink, play. I’m sure that you’ll become a happy kid like me then.
If you don’t wish to drive on your own or if you come from another state or country, you can choose to pay JOYZRIDE for their charter travel service. Not only it’s relaxing and comfortable, you can also visit the nearby Sekinchan or other attractions!
